A World Of Music At Close As Flights To Norway

You don’t usually think of flights to Norway for a musical destination. Unless you’re in touch with some of the niche musical styles or traditional classics you might not even put it on the top ten. In reality Norway has been at the forefront of many various and sundry genres in modern music. The low population numbers as compared to the world stage, hasn’t stopped them for being innovators, just fewer of them.

Norway’s classical performers include Leif Ove Andsnes, one of the world’s more famous pianists, and the great Wagnerian soprano Kirsten Flagstad. The jazz scene in Norway has been flourishing for more than a decades or two with the likes of internationally recognized performers such as Jan Garbarek, a Norwegian tenor and soprano saxophonist, active in the genres of jazz, classical, and world music. Jens Christian Bugge Wesseltoft is a Norwegian jazz musician, pianist, composer and producer with his own label, Jazzland Records.

Once the main stay of Norway’s homegrown music, an a tradition which remains popular to this day is Folk Music. Played mostly on the Hardanger fiddle, a traditional stringed instrument that only looks like a violin, designed with eight or nine strings, as opposed to four on a standard violin, and thinner wood.

In the1990s, black metal, the lo-fi, dark, raw form of heavy metal exploded in Norway and launched the worldwide careers of bands named Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Burzum, Emperor, Darkthrone and Immortal, and recently Dimmu Borgir.
