Tourist Class Syndrome
Care for travellers economy class syndrome occurs between those travelers who use the aircraft on long routes, i.e. more than three hours. The problem is caused both by the reduction of space pressure atmospheric to which we are subject. We can also affect factors which in principle may seem less important, as the noise of the engines, the closed room, or find us in a strange environment.
All of these factors does not affect passengers without health problems, but sometimes the drop in pressure causes an expansion of the gases contained in our body. Likewise, the low humidity in the aircraft can produce a dryness of the mucous membranes, which becomes more annoying in those travelers who use contact lenses.
To prevent the “evil of economy class” must begin to prevent from the day before our trip. Try to not eat heavy meals or to produce gases, as well as alcoholic beverages or coffee, which are foods that can help to dehydration.
On the other hand is avoiding the thrombi due to a prolonged stay in a same position. There are some “tricks” that allow us to have greater mobility. To start, do not take with us the packages by hand. Always store them in the compartments air carriers put at our disposal. In this way we will gain space to move the legs.
During the flight move the feet, ankles, fingers and even lifted for a few seconds, provided that those signals bright allow us it. For the rest of the body, we can make moves with the neck. Avoid things that us pressures, either tight clothing, belts, undergarments… etc, if not traveling with clothes to prevent perspiration.
If you notice any discomfort, the best thing is to consult with the cabin crew, and they will help us to relax and to avoid any problems.
